2016-17 Season – Stories that transform Us

Posted on Posted in Uncategorized

Dear Friends,

Welcome to Urban Ink’s 2016-17 Season!

In order to look forward, you need to look back. Our season includes: Moonlodge by Margo Kane, a work of theatre that has stayed with its audience over decades as a seminal moment of transformation in the theatre; Freedom Singer co-created by Khari Wendell McClelland and Andrew Kushnir with Jodie Martinson, is a new documentary theatre piece that honours one of the country’s essential historical narratives: the Underground Railroad. We are proud of have Kamila Sediego join us as artist-in-residence for this season, developing her new work Homecoming.

Ten years ago, Marie Clement’s (Founding Artistic Director of Urban Ink) ambitious new work Copper Thunderbird premiered at the National Arts Centre as the final work in the Mainstage Season of English Theatre. This June, Children of God a new musical I’ve been writing for 7 years will close the National Arts Centre – English Theatre season. This is a full circle moment for Urban Ink, that repositions our work on the National Stage, and we hope you will join us!
