The Arrivals Project

arrival_project_mainThe primary focus of the Arrivals Project is to guide artists in an embodied exploration of their own histories of (dis)place(ment). urban ink has developed a unique and internationally recognized process for the facilitation of this based on the stories, voice and cultural practices of each artist’s personal ancestry. These workshops have been offered across Canada, in the UK, Colombia, the Caribbean, and Europe. The workshops are facilitated primarily by urban ink Artistic Director Diane Roberts and full-length workshops include co-facilitation by Associate Artists Heather Hermant, Danielle Smith and Aboriginal Community Director Rosemary Georgeson.

The impact of the work is profound and lasting. Participants have reported their encounters as turning point moments in their work and in some cases, their lives. In whatever context the work is being conducted the deeply rooted connections serve to anchor the performer in a way that defies explanation.
