Call for artists for Artist Training Programs

Urban Ink Productions is calling for applications for The CollectiveThe Writers Group, our two Artist Training Programs for emerging artists. These programs provides a home for artists to grow their own artistic work, and a chance to collaborate and have an ongoing, meaningful relationship to the next generation of theatre creators.

The Collective is a curated group of emerging artists from diverse cultural backgrounds and artistic practices dedicated to improving their skills as theatre creators. Collective members receive ongoing training from professional artists. The focus is on an interdisciplinary approach to theatre creation.

The group also works alongside our Writers Group to workshop their scripts and participate in readings throughout the season. From November to April, the Collective will meet every 2-3 weeks to participate in workshops with professional artists on disciplines such as voice, movement, music and writing, as well as collaborative creation sessions. Additionally, the Collective will be given the opportunity to see and discuss professional productions in Vancouver B.C.

The Writers Group is a creative hub for emerging playwrights from diverse cultural backgrounds, offering a platform for writers to develop their work alongside dramaturges.

We aim to implement a progressive, inclusive model of training that celebrates the diverse voices of our community. At the end of the season, we provide a staged reading of the writers’ works in development.

Workshops of the new works in development are organized in collaboration with our Collective, a group of interdisciplinary, diverse theatre creators varying in artistic background.

From November to April, the Writers Group will meet once per month, to work with their fellow writers and learn from guest teachers and dramaturges. The group will learn about various writing techniques, styles, specific parts of playwriting and study significant plays. Additionally, the Writers Group will be given the opportunity to see and discuss professional productions in Vancouver B.C. The Writers will also have the opportunity to participate in interdisciplinary theatre workshops with the Collective.
