ON NATIVE LAND
Two contemporary Indigenous stories intersect, one about an Indigenous singer/songwriter trying to find a voice and speak out politically in a world where profit is more important than community; and another where an Indigenous lawyer is fighting for her nation’s land in the face of power, corruption, and greed. The stories focus on identity and how when Indigenous peoples are removed from their land, we are removed from our sense of self. We also explore how the disconnection from land has impacted all peoples’; ultimately this show is an immediate call to action for all peoples to understand the impacts of forced removal of Indigenous peoples from their land on all peoples who live on Turtle Island.
This expansive love story is a sweeping retelling of familiar narratives with an Indigenous perspective at the heart of their journeys. They tell universal experiences for urban Indigenous peoples, uplift them, and let our people know that they are not alone. We have workshops for this musical that will be shared with the community.
