TRANSFORM Cabaret Festival is back!  Sept. 23 – Oct. 2, 2021
Presented by  Urban Ink & The Cultch

INDIGENIZING THE DIGITAL STAGE
Co-curated by Corey Payette & Heather Redfern

TRANSFORM Cabaret Festival returns for a third year with an exciting digital and in-person hybrid format that will take what you know about Cabaret to the next level! Co-curated by Corey Payette and Heather Redfern, with the support of Protocol Keeper, Quelemia Sparrow, the 2021 festival continues to focus on empowering Indigenous artists and encouraging collaboration with non-Indigenous artists. This unique festival builds relationships and brings communities together to create lasting social change and cutting edge world-class performance. Featuring local and international artists in a variety of performance styles including theatre, music, drag, circus, comedy and everything in between.

Catch an evening of Sido Adamson & Cris Derksen’s circus mixed with Indigenous classical music, Kim Senklip Harvey’s Break Horizons: A Concert Documentary, brand new shows from returning favourites like The Darlings and The Candy Show featuring the legendary Buffy Sainte-Marie, PLUS family fun with Le Gateau Chocolat, and our Bashes featuring Continental Breakfast, Mx.Bukuru, Lynx Chase, Bo Dyp, Venus Kunt, Maya Ritchey, Shay, Skim, Zaya Sawchyn, and Quelemia Sparrow.

This year, our artists are taking over our stages for seven explosive days of bold, uncompromising, political, and interactive performances all created for a digital experience hybrid with an in-person audience twist you won’t want to miss! Now, more than ever, this festival is a platform for IBPOC artists to self-determine the stories they share and how they want to share them with the world. We can’t wait for you to join us!

In just three years the festival has become a catalyst for Indigenous artists to make brave new works and build relationships with each other. When I see the projects that these creators are leading and how they are engaging makers seen in the two previous festivals I am blown away. As I see the early edits for the coming shows I am in awe of the visions these artists bring to the screen.“—Heather Redfern | Executive Director, The Cultch

This festival is unlike any other. It is a joyous experience, and whether you’re experiencing it digitally at home or in the theatre—that joy is infectious and is something we all need right now. With our extraordinary line up of brilliant collaborating artists, there has never been a better moment to engage with these stories and perspectives and to emerge, transformed.”—Corey Payette | Artistic Director, Urban Ink Productions
